Scott & Melissa Calloway
George's Carry Out
“We just really prayed for God to open the door… if it was meant to be it would happen. It was really seamless the way it all came to be.”
Scott and Melissa Calloway became owners of George’s Carry Out almost 19 years ago in March, 2000. The Lord opened doors for them to leave previous jobs and start running a restaurant as a young couple. Scott jokingly says he traded in his hammer for a spatula. God giving us the desires of our heart is evidently shown in their story as Melissa and her father even joked about buying the place when she was a kid…
“It has nothing to do with us, it’s totally God using us as a platform here… and it’s been so cool to see over the years."
Through their business, Scott and Melissa have had countless opportunities to be used as vessels for God’s Kingdom. They’ve come alongside their employees personally. They’ve seen individuals come out of darkness and into the light through salvation. They’ve seen marriages restored. They’ve prayed with strangers in the parking lot. They are known by the local community as a christian ran restaurant simply because of how they live their lives. “People talk about how they just love walking in and hearing edifying music being played.”
I believe that what we give ourselves to is what come out of us. Scott and Melissa have given their lives and their business to God, so naturally, Jesus comes out of them. The nature and character of Jesus is visible when you’re around these Kingdom Business owners. They can tell you story after story of God’s favor over their business. Melissa said, “Without God being the cornerstone of this business, we wouldn’t have survived.” They’re business carries a story of God’s faithfulness, determination, compassion, and the love that Jesus teaches us to live out.
You can find Psalm 15 on George’s pizza boxes and more…“Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent? Who may live in your holy mountain? The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others; whoever does these things will never be shaken."
"It’s about who you are and how you live your life.”
Go ahead and head over to George’s Carry Out to support my good family friends and fellow Kingdom Business owners to get you some DANG good food!
